Where are you coming from?

• iRedMail Your mailboxes live in Dovecot on both sides, so the mail itself moves over IMAP without touching the original server.
• mailcow Both servers store mail in Dovecot, so the migration is an IMAP sync followed by a DNS change - and the stack of containers becomes one.
• CommuniGate Pro CommuniGate Pro stores mail in its own format, so we migrate over IMAP - which is also the safest way to keep the old server running until you are happy.
• Postfix/Dovecot A hand-built server is the easiest case: the mail is already in Dovecot, and what usually takes the time is the years of configuration nobody wrote down.
• cPanel Splitting email away from a hosting panel is usually the point: mail gets its own server, its own IP reputation and its own upgrade cycle, and the websites stay where they are.
• Exchange Mailboxes, folders and historical email move over IMAP. Calendars and shared mailboxes do not have an Exchange equivalent here, so this is a migration worth talking through before it starts.

What you get either way

• Tested as one unit SMTP, IMAP, spam filtering, antivirus, webmail and administration are exercised together against real servers before an image ships. A version bump in one part cannot quietly break another.
• Backward compatible Your data and your configuration survive upgrades. We have not asked anyone to reinstall since 2014.
